Pokémon GO Players Unlock Farfetch’d in Global Catch Challenge

Pokémon GO‘s latest worldwide event, the Global Catch Challenge, has reached its goal of 3 billion captured monsters. The grand prize for the challenge is the rare Japan-exclusive Pokémon, Farfetch’d, which is now available to catch in all regions.

Over the past week, Pokémon GO players have been steadily working their way through the Global Catch Challenge goals to gain access to in-game rewards. The first goal of 500 million caught Pokémon was achieved in less than a day and granted players double XP, more Pokémon spawns, and six-hour Lure times until December 1st. Players reached the second goal of 1.5 billion a couple days later, unlocking double Stardust bonuses and even more Pokémon spawns.

Now, the ultimate goal of 3 billion captured Pokémon has been reached, and Farfetch’d can be found in the wild across the globe. This is the first time Farfetch’d has been available outside of East Asia, but it will only be catchable for 48 hours. Get your tracking boots on now.

As for East Asia Pokémon GO players, the 3 billion achievement unlocked the Australia-exclusive monster, Kangaskhan. Like Farfetch’d, Kangaskhan will only be around for 48 hours outside of its normal region.

The availability of these region-exclusive Pokémon should put players that much closer to filling out their Pokédex. There are other area-locked Pokémon besides Farfetch’d and Kangaskhan, like Mr. Mime and Heracross. Though players outside those monsters’ regions still cannot obtain them, the Global Catch Event is a good sign that will change one day. Slowly but surely Pokémon GO players will be able to catch ’em all.

The in-game rewards of double XP, increased Pokémon spawns, etc. will last until the end of the month, while Farfetch’d and Kangaskhan will return to their original regions after the 48-hour period.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
