PlayStation Now Service is being discontinued for PS3 and PS Vita

Sony has announced today on their blog that a major PlayStation Now update will be coming later this year. The service will be abandoning a large number of platforms as it moves forward later this year.

On August 15th, the service will be discontinued for several devices. Here’s the full list of devices:

  • PlayStation 3

  • PlayStation Vita

  • The PlayStation TV

  • 2013, 2014, 2015 Sony Bravia TV models

  • All Sony Blu-ray players

  • All Samsung TV models

In addition to all of this, all 2016 Sony Bravia TV models will be discontinued on April 1st.

These changes will leave the PlayStation 4 and PC as the only platforms for the PlayStation Now service. The blog post explains that this decision has been made to allow them to “grow the service” even more. It also allows them to “develop and improve the user experience” for PS4 and PC users.

The blog post notes that anyone with the discontinued devices will need to disable the auto-renewal for the service. This will stop the payments for future subscriptions which would otherwise be taken from the account. Sony warns users to keep an eye on their subscription model if they plan to cancel later in the year as the subscription may auto-renew.

PlayStation Now allows users to stream PlayStation 3 games to their devices. From August 15th, the service will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and PC.

Sony hasn’t revealed the changes that will be coming to the PlayStation Now service. The company will release more news about the PlayStation Now service later this year as Sony continues to support it on PS4 and PC.

More news about the PlayStation Now service should be released later this year. We will continue to update you on the situation as it unfolds throughout the year and as new games are added to the programs library.
