Outlast 2 has received a difficulty update

While Outlast 2 has collected incredible feedback since it was released at the end of last month, not all players were happy with it. However, Red Barrels has listened to the community and released an update in an attempt to fix these problems.

The developers posted the news on Steam at the start of the weekend. The blog post also includes the patch notes for the recent changes to the game. It also notes that the update has introduced some minor difficulty adjustments. As a result, the normal difficulty should be more balanced while providing a harder experience on Hard and Nightmare. In addition to this, the team have included a variety of bug fixes and other small improvements.

Here’s the main changes in this update:

• Global rebalancing of the game difficulty.
• Microphone no longer uses extra batteries.
• Increased the size of subtitles.

Here are the bug fixes:

• Issue on Intel HD 4000 cards where most dynamic lights were missing is fixed
• Fixed an issue where flickering black squares appear in the center of the screen at some specific resolutions.
• Fixed an issue with alternate controller mappings and the camcorder UI.
• Double door locking bug
• Issue with ‘lost games’
• Some sound effects
• Minor gameplay issues
• Multiple crashing issues

There were also some minor additions with this update:

• “-refreshrate 60” command-line parameter to specify a preferred refresh rate (replace 60 by the desired refresh rate).
•  “-notexturelimit” command-line parameter to remove texture size limits based on VRAM amount.
• “-borderless” command-line parameter to use borderless fullscreen and not have to edit INI files.

While the developer post notes that this update does not include the Simplified Chinese translation, this will be coming in a later update. Red Barrels has stated it will be coming next week but failed to specify exactly when.
