Nvidia Shield owners are facing two very different home-theater developments: reports of devices randomly waking TVs and projectors, while a software update addresses stutter and slowdown in Dolby Vision video.
As BGR reports, numerous Reddit users described Shield hardware powering on connected displays even though every device was in sleep mode. It is an awkward interruption for home-theater setups, where a television or projector can unexpectedly spring to life.
Sleeping setups are waking unexpectedly
The Reddit accounts involve both TVs and projectors, with Shield devices reportedly causing unwanted power-ons while the entire setup was asleep. The number of similar reports has put the behavior firmly on owners’ radar.
For users encountering an unexpectedly active screen, the common detail is straightforward: the Shield, television, or projector had been placed in sleep mode before the display powered on.
Dolby Vision gets a targeted update
There is better news on the playback side. BGR says Nvidia’s 9.2.4 update addressed stutter and slowdown when watching Dolby Vision content, with Disney+ proving a particular trouble spot.
That support arrives well into the Shield family’s lifespan. The first Android-powered Nvidia Shield streaming device launched in 2015, followed by the Shield TV Pro in 2019. The update directly tackles one viewing issue, while owners continue sharing reports about another disruptive behavior.
