‘No Man’s Sky’ Devs Break Silence, Announce Update

The silent treatment is over.

At long last, developers at Hello Games have broken their silence following the release of No Man’s Sky. In a post on their website, Hello Games just announced a patch. The Foundation Update will be available “this week,” according to the post. The update is named for the added foundation of base building and the foundation for future additions. They say it won’t be a massive update but is the beginning of a long journey of patches for the game.

“The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.”

As we’ve reported before, this game has fallen victim to the hype train that often runs through the gaming community. It released back in August of this year to some pretty crappy reviews. Players said No Man’s Sky didn’t come close to living up to the hype. Its planets’ environments, resources, and inhabitants are repetitive and inspire boredom after a mere few hours of gameplay. Other complaints include a lack of varying spaceships and no multiplayer base, both of which were promised by developers. There have also been many reports of glitches that make objectives impossible to complete or cause the game to crash completely. No Man’s Sky even received an “overwhelmingly negative” rating on Steam, one of the lowest ever.

Hello Games, including its founder Sean Murray, have been controversially unresponsive to, well, everything. No “We hear your complaints.” No “We messed up, and we’re working on it.” Finally, we’ve heard their “small team” is grinding away trying to fix issues for their players.

It’s easy to be annoyed when developers don’t deliver what they promise in their games, but it’s nice to hear that they do listen to us and work with our criticisms in mind.

Have you been disappointed with No Man’s Sky? Does the promise of extensive updates give you some hope? Let us know in the comments!

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
