The Nintendo Switch is coming March 2017.
Nintendo revealed its mysterious new portable home console to the public in a teaser video this morning. It is called the Nintendo Switch, and it’s set to release March of 2017.
We’ve only known this console by its code name “Nintendo NX” up to this point. Nintendo had already confirmed this would be some hybrid of a home and portable console, but we’ve been in the dark other than that. Now, finally, we’ve seen the console.
In the video’s YouTube description, Nintendo stated, “In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.”
The Switch looks like a small tablet computer with controllers that attach to each side. These controllers can be removed to play both single-player and multi-player games. The video even shows four people playing what appears to be the same game on two separate Switches.
When at home, the Switch can be docked to a Wii-esque system and played on a television with more typical-looking home console controllers. The teaser video showed us gameplay of the much-anticipated game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well as an updated Mario Kart 8, a new Mario, Skyrim (I know. What?!), and a basketball game, likely NBA 2K17.
At this time, no official specs have been announced, but rumors are flying. We’ll keep you posted with the latest news on the exciting Nintendo Switch.
