To match the SNES Classic Edition which is being released later this year, Nintendo is also releasing a console exclusive to Japan. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans considering the fact that the SNES and Super Famicom were just different versions of the same console and were produced for different regions. As expected, the upcoming mini console is based on the design of the original Super Famicom.
In addition to this, the new console will feature different games to the SNES mini.
The Games
The Japanese console will contain slightly different games to the Western version. It contains Panel de Pon for example which got a Western release under the title of “Tetris Attack”. This console will also feature a slightly different Street Fighter 2 game.
Here are all 21 of the included games:
- Contra 3: The Alien Wars
- Donkey Kong Country
- F-Zero
- Final Fantasy 6
- Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
- Legend of the Mystical Ninja
- Kirby Super Star
- Mega Man X
- Panel de Pon
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Super Soccer
- Super Ghouls n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
- Super Metroid
- Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
While most of the games are the same, there are a few minor differences between the two. The mini Super Famicom will cost 7,980 yen, around $71 in USD. In addition to this, the console will be getting a slightly later release on October 5th shortly after the SNES mini. Despite the short delay, production for this console will still only run until the end of the year. Nintendo is yet to announce an exact date.
