Nintendo Confirms No Live E3 Presentation This Year

Always the black sheep, Nintendo is again opting for a less traditional E3 presentation, despite recent claims that the company has “big E3” plans for 2017.

In a financial briefing presentation (via NeoGAF), Nintendo confirmed they will not host presentations for E3 attendees like other studios and developers will be.

From the presentation:

“Finally, the video game tradeshow E3 will be held in Los Angeles this June. Again this year, we will not be hosting a large-scale press conference for institutional investors, analysts and the media. Nintendo of America will present further information on our plans at a later date.”

The video game industry conference, which takes place June 13th- 15th this year, will exhibit Nintendo in another way. With Reggie hyping up Nintendo’s E3 presence this year, we’re wondering what they have in store.

In the past years, Nintendo has opted for their own livestreams of Nintendo Directs and Treehouse Lives instead of traditional presentations in front of an audience. Directs typically reveal upcoming games and accessories, while Treehouse Lives get more hands-on and in-depth with specific games.

We’ll likely see installments of each of these livestreams from Nintendo at E3, but what about those “big E3” plans they have? I wrote out some of my predictions and high hopes, but fans are mostly hoping for more content than Nintendo has given at past E3’s.

Unless we hear about these before June, E3 would be the right time for Nintendo to fully reveal the Switch’s Virtual Console, as well as details and an actual release date for the Animal Crossing app game. And maybe Pikmin 4, finally?!

Also, we’ll likely see a lot of Super Mario Odyssey gameplay in a Treehouse Live since it’s Nintendo’s big Holiday 2017 title.

Do you think Nintendo will do something even more out of the norm this E3? Let us know in the comments.

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
