New Games Confirmed for the Switch: Rime and Yooka-Laylee

Two new games have been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch recently: Tequila Works’ Rime and Playtonic Games’ Yooka-Laylee.

Rime

Rime, formerly a PlayStation-exclusive title, is officially coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. The game was spotted by AllGamesDelta on the Brazilian Ratings Board for the listed consoles. This news comes after Sony returned the property rights to indie developer Tequila Works, who seems to have made the decision.

A cel-shaded adventure and puzzle game, Rime stars a boy shipwrecked on a mysterious island after a torrential storm. Players must use their wits to solve various challenges across ruins of a lost civilization.

Rime is set for release in 2017. Check out the PS4 trailer for the open-world game below.

Yooka-Laylee

The other game now coming to the Switch is Yooka-Laylee, which was formerly in development for the Wii U. The Playtonic team said they “encountered unforeseen technical issues” that necessitated the platform change. It is launching on April 11th, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux. Playtonic promised they’d have more details on the Switch version in early 2017.

Kickstarter backers of Yooka-Laylee who chose the Wii U version will be able to move their pledge to any other console free-of-charge. Details on how backers can change their version will be announced in January. Until then, you can check out their Wii U FAQ page for more information.

Yooka-Laylee is a colorful open-world platformer and spiritual successor to games like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. Players guide Yooka and Laylee through puzzles and platforming challenges to unlock new worlds with “oddball characters and hulking bosses.”

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.

  • I'm glad they at least confirmed the Switch version for Yooka Laylee, I was rather torn because I want a Switch but I also would like to get Yooka Laylee for a Nintendo system and seeing as I want the switch more and want to play that more, buying the Wii U version was questionable for me. At least now I don't have to choose (I mean the game is now cancelled for the poor Wii U) and hopefully they are working really close with Nintendo to get the Switch version released in April along side all the other versions. But at this point who knows, they might have to delay it by a few months... I doubt this will be a launch title for the Switch by any stretch of the imagination.
