The wait for the Steel/Fairy Legendary is over!

magearnabattle1

Pokémon Sun and Moon’s first Mythical Pokémon Magearna is available for trainers now! If you’ve beaten the main campaign in Sun or Moon, you can use the QR scanner feature to scan a–you guessed it–QR code for Magearna! Once you scan in the code, talk to the deliveryman at the Antiquities of the Ages shop in Hau’oli City. There, he will give you your new legendary Pokémon!

The QR code, posted below, was released today and will be available indefinitely, so no rush to beat the game to scan in the code!

Magearna is a Steel- and Fairy-type Pokémon that was made by a scientist 500 years ago. She “has the power to perceive the emotions, thoughts, and feelings of other Pokémon.” Magerna’s ability Soul-Heart is new and exclusive to her. It raises the Pokémon’s Special Attack stat by 1 every time a nearby Pokémon faints.

This new Legendary is just one of now 301 QR codes you can scan into Pokémon Sun and Moon–one for each Pokémon in the Alolan Pokédex. Well, I guess 602 counting shinies. When you scan in a code, the game shows you where that Pokémon can be caught, if at all. Some Reddit users have gathered every QR code for every Pokémon in the Alolan ‘dex and made a huge imgur page of them all. Happy sifting!

The QR scanner is a great feature that helps you to both fill up your Pokédex and find those more evasive Pokés. Remember, you can only scan in one QR code a day! So choose wisely. (You miiight not want to scan in the code for any shiny starters since you’ll never run across those in the wild.)

Magearna’s QR code has no expiration date, and she’s available now! Will you add her to your team?

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
