The New Pokémon Sun and Moon Global Mission is Here

Let’s hope it’s better than the first one…

The first Global Mission for Pokémon Sun and Moon was a huge flop. The Pokémon Company tasked Sun and Moon players all over the world to collectively catch 100 million Pokémon between November 29th and December 13th. Unfortunately, players didn’t even reach 20% of the mission’s goal at just 16.5 million creatures captured. Someone overprojected…

The next Global Mission, which starts tomorrow December 27th, has a much more modest goal. Players worldwide must collectively catch or defeat 1 million Pokémon by using Pokémon Sun and Moon’s Island Scan feature. Players can earn up to 4,034 Festival Coins if they participate in this mission.

The Island Scan is a new feature that allows players to scan the Alolan islands for rare non-Alolan Pokémon when they have accrued 100 points from scanning codes in the QR Scanner, found in the game’s main menu. Here, players can scan various QR codes and add the affiliated Pokémon as “seen” in their Pokédex.

Though every Pokémon in the ‘Dex has a specific code, any and every QR code in existence can be scanned for a Pokémon. Hurry! Go check that QR code on your cereal box for cool Pokés!

The Festival Coins earned from this mission can be used in Pokémon Sun and Moon’s Festival Plaza. Here, players can access online battles, Wonder Trades, and the Global Trade System. Additionally, facilities can be bought with Festival Coins to dye clothes, train Pokémon’s EV’s, increase their happiness, increase their levels, and more.

Alrighty, you should be all set to start the Global Mission tomorrow. You have until January 9th to help your fellow trainers catch or defeat 1 million Pokémon, so hop on it!
