New Destiny 2 info claims over 80 missions and PVE activities

Destiny’s Reddit posted information taken from Edge Magazine issue 310’s cover story of Destiny 2.

  • ‘The beta did not contain the final implementation of how Energy weapons work against AI combatants with elemental shields; when the shield is depleted, it explodes, nuking any enemies that happen to be nearby’
  • Nightfall strikes now have a time limit (varying by Strike; one example was 13 minutes) so efficiency and settling on a strategy beforehand will be important
  • There are over 80 missions and (PVE) activities, and each is substantial in length, challenge, story and reward
  • There’s so much new content that at one point in development they realised they had more content than progression (something they’ve subsequently fixed)    “

The big takeaway for most commenters appears to be the claim of over 80 missions/activities in the PVE section. For most, PVE with friends is the ultimate form of Destiny as its slower pace than most shooters (and regular revives) lends itself well to hanging with friends while grinding out missions.

The redditor also mentioned a few of the secrets the Edge team learned when visiting Bungie, but were not allowed to publish in the magazine. One of the secrets regarded the Hunter class, to which the writer claimed will help improve the bottom-tier class.

Supers and grenades should recharge faster than their beta speeds and aggressive play will be rewarded with faster recharge as well.

an example given was a Warlock exotic chest that lets you hover in the air (sounding a little like Empyrrean Bellicose) where kills whilst hovering will quickly recharge your grenade.”

Comments on the reddit post seem split between hyped for a ton of content…

lipidquadcab

“Holy hell that could be a lot of content, depending on the distribution of story missions/strikes/lost sectors/adventures/patrols.

Suddenly the three days of vacation I’m taking don’t seem like nearly enough. What a great problem to have.”

…and keeping expectations in check

DWillows

“eh, 80 missions and pve activities can mean 10 missions and 70 different patrol beacon types or some shit like that. I don’t mean to bring on the pessimism, but i’m going to wait until we get more specifics.”

The good news is that Bungie themselves felt they created more content than progression, and had to re-balance their output. Definitely a vote for the 80 missions/activities being a substantial amount of content for the rabid fan base.

Are you excited for Destiny 2?

okay

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
