Earlier this week, Target accidentally leaked that Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor would be getting a sequel. Warner Brothers has now released an announcement trailer for the game.
The store page for the game revealed that the new game would be called Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. The store page also revealed that the new game would be released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Shadow of Mordor was originally released for console and also PC. The Store page description didn’t comment if the game would be available for PC.
Warner Brothers has now officially confirmed that the sequel does exist. The release of this announcement trailer comes shortly after the Target store page leak.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War has the same developer as the original game. Talion and Celebrimbor both return in this game and must form an army to defeat Sauron. GameSpot reports that the new game will be set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. According to that report, players will be wielding a new Ring of Power in this Open World Adventure game.
The Nemesis System from the first game is returning in Shadow of War and has apparently been updated. This new system has “followers” that allow players to gain loyal followers with their own unique stories. The developer hasn’t gone into detail about the new aspects of this system however.
While Warner Bros has officially announced the game, a gameplay reveal will be coming next month. The first gameplay video will be released on March 8th and the announcement video confirms that Shadow of War will be released on August 22nd.
It’s been confirmed that the game will be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and Windows 10 store. Microsoft has also stated that the game will be joining the Xbox Play Anywhere program for Xbox One and PC.
