Microsoft announces a new game subscription program called “Xbox Game Pass”

Microsoft has announced that they will be launching a Netflix-like subscription based program for gamers. This new program will contain over 100 games for Xbox One players to enjoy and will get new games every month. Only a small number of games have been confirmed so far however.

The official website for the Xbox Game Pass confirms that the following games will be included in the program: Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Mad Max, Lego Batman, Fable III and Payday 2. The website also lists a variety of other games. Microsoft is expected to release a full list of games later this year.

Gamers can expect to see a wide range of genres coming to the Xbox Game Pass program. The website states that action/adventure, family favorites, shooters, sports and puzzle games will all be featured in the program. Microsoft has confirmed that the full games will be available in the program. This means that the multiplayer and online sections of the game will be totally accessible by Xbox Game Pass players. This is good news for Halo 5: Guardians and Payday 2.

Xbox Game Pass games will be downloaded directly to the Xbox One and players will be able to launch the games directly from their library. It will also include a variety of Xbox 360 titles from the backwards compatibility program. It will however, be exclusive to the Xbox One.

Microsoft has also confirmed that subscription holders will be given a special discount. All Xbox One games will get a 20% discount when purchasing from the digital store. There will also be a 10% discount on add-ons for games in the program.

Xbox Game Pass will cost $9.99/£7.99 per month and Microsoft hasn’t confirmed if players will be able to pay quarterly. The company did confirm however that the Xbox Game Pass will be launching later this Spring. An actual release date has not been provided yet.

We will continue to update you as Microsoft releases more details about the new subscription based program.
