Mario Kart 8 Deluxe File Size & New Pink Drift Boost Revealed

The release of the revamped Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is just around the corner on April 28th, and we’re starting to see more details leaked online following the lift of the preview embargo.

First up, the file size. After seeing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes up half the Switch’s internal memory–and Dragon Quest Heroes goes well over the storage limit–players have been worried about other big games taking up too much space. But fear not, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should fit snuggly on your Switch, as long as you haven’t already filled it with too many eShop titles.

Amazon Germany (via Nintendo Life) has revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be a 6.75 GB download, a manageable size for the Switch’s 26 GB of storage space available for games. If you’re already reaching your console’s memory limit, you can purchase microSD cards to expand those gigs.

In other MK8 Deluxe news, various new gameplay videos have made their way onto the internet following the end of the game’s preview embargo (via Wccftech). Based on the new videos, load times have been reduced from the Wii U version, and both docked and handheld mode run smoothly.

The below video shows gameplay of the new Battle Mode at 1080p and 60fps. It also shows a new pink drifting boost, which appears while drifting after the blue and red boosts. You can see the pink boost at about the 48 second mark.

The next video shows the new 200cc Time Attack Mode in 1080p at 60fps as well.

The final video shows a new pink drifting boost, which appears while drifting after the blue and orange boosts. You can see the pink boost at about the 50 second mark, but of course I included a screenshot below as well.

We can’t wait to try out this polished and enhanced Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which releases April 28th on the Nintendo Switch.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
