Kindergarten is an unusual little game. It’s set in a Kindergarten where players control an unnamed boy with the aim of making it through the day. There’s a little more depth to the game than just this however, there is a mini-storyline for most characters in the game for the player to explore and complete.
These stories are interesting and the game certainly plays with more mature themes than what would be ‘appropriate’ for a Kindergarten. While playing house for example alcoholism and abortion are brought up.
After completing one day of school, the day is reset and players once again must replay through Monday. However, all of their progress at the school from the past day is wiped clean. Despite this, the player does not regain their lost money from their piggy bank and they keep any special items they earned from their last run. These items can then be used on the next run through the game to gain access to new interactions with different characters.
There are also plenty of ways to die in the game. Raging from being beaten to death, falling down a hole and being murdered by the janitor. After dying, the player needs to restart that portion of the day or the entire day.
At it’s heart, the game is a point-and-click. The player must walk around the environment and interact with different characters or items. As a result, it may be a little too slow for most players to get into but the amusing humor should keep the game entertaining for some time at least.
Those who enjoy this style of game should feel right at home with this game, those who struggle to get into this genre will find that the game feels more like a chore.
