The future or IOI Interactive is suddenly looking much better! Last month we revealed that Square Enix decided to drop the development studio and was looking to sell it. If you missed that article then you can read more about the situation here.

The developer in question has just released a statement on the matter and their fans are extremely happy. IOI Interactive has published a blog post which explains that they will be becoming an independent company.

“I am proud to announce today that IOI is now officially an independent studio” reads the blog post.

IOI Interactive has ended their discussions with Square Enix. As a result, SE has agreed to a management buyout. Not only this, but IOI Interactive will be keeping all of the rights to the Hitman series. Not only is the company free to make all of their own decisions now, they also get to keep developing games for the Hitman series without Square Enix watching over them.

“This is a watershed moment for IOI” reads the blog post and the team certainly seems to be excited about their future now. As a result, the developer is now open to potential collaborations with future partners and companies to produce new and amazing titles.

IOI Interactive end the blog post by thanking their community, players and friends in the media. Especially to those who sent the struggling studio messages of support over the past few weeks. However, the team also thanks Square Enix for their time together over the last eight years.

While this future certainly seems very promising for the studio, it’s uncertain what they will be doing over the next few years. IOI Interactive was originally an independent studio and will now return to their roots.

We wish them all the best for the future!
