NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice 2 has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide, series co-creator and chief creative officer Ed Boon confirmed in a social media post. The milestone covers the game’s sales following its 2017 release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, according to GamingBolt’s report.
Ed Boon confirms the worldwide sales milestone
Boon shared the figure on August 11 after a social media user asked for clarification about Injustice 2’s performance. The question referenced superhero-game sales figures through May 2019 and asked whether the fighting game had sold more than 2 million copies.
“Since we released Injustice 2, it has sold over 9 million copies worldwide,” Boon wrote.
That figure gives Injustice 2 a clear commercial milestone, although it does not include a platform-by-platform breakdown. The statement also does not explain whether the total counts only the PC and console editions or includes the game’s mobile versions.
The mobile versions leave one sales question open
Injustice 2 also received free-to-play mobile releases on Android and iOS. Boon’s statement does not say whether those versions contributed to the 9 million total.
That distinction matters when assessing the game’s reach. A combined total would cover a broader set of releases, while a figure limited to PC and consoles would offer a more direct comparison with traditional premium fighting games. The available evidence does not resolve that split.
The milestone still confirms strong long-term demand for NetherRealm’s DC fighter. However, without regional, platform, or version-specific figures, readers cannot determine which release drove the largest share of sales.
The sales milestone does not confirm Injustice 3
Reports cited by GamingBolt earlier in 2026 said NetherRealm Studios was working on a superhero fighting game. Those reports did not confirm whether the project would become Injustice 3 or introduce a different title.
GamingBolt also referenced claims from leaker MultiverSusie that NetherRealm may be moving away from the Injustice branding. Those claims remain unconfirmed, and the studio has not announced its next Mortal Kombat game, a new Injustice entry, or another project.
The confirmed news remains limited to the sales result. For players, that means the 9 million figure strengthens the case for Injustice 2 as a successful DC fighting game, but it does not provide evidence of a sequel or reveal NetherRealm’s next release.
