Microsoft has just announced the first big story expansion for Halo Wars 2. The publisher made the announcement at Gamescom this week.
Awakening the Nightmare will be releasing on September 26th this year. Players will be able to take control of the villains from the main game, The Banished, to fight against the Flood. The Flood is threatening the Ark and the whole galaxy.
The Flood will pose an interesting challenge to players as according to this blog post, they have the ability to shapeshift. This means that The Flood can manifest in different forms which make them particularly deadly for certain situations. Players will be forced to adjust their tactics every single battle as a result.
In addition to the new story expansion, there’s also a new Firefight mode called “Terminus Firefight” coming. This is a horde style mode where players can fight against waves of enemies. This mode is randomized and can be played solo or with friends.
The following is also coming to the game:
While we don’t know much about these new leaders and maps, the team note that “September is going to be a big month for Halo Wars 2“. We do know however that the new maps are called “Mirage” and “Fissure”. Both maps will be free to all players. We can assume that the new leaders will be exclusive to those who purchase Awakening the Nightmare or have the season pass.
It looks like September will be a great month for Halo Wars 2. We’ll continue to bring you updates about Halo Wars 2 and the Awakening the Nightmare expansion over the coming months.
