GameSeek – the self-proclaimed “cheapest place in the United Kingdom to get consoles” – has made a bold claim regarding how much you could pay for a Nintendo Switch.
Although there is no official release date or price, GameSeek has offered to sell it for £198.50 to any customer who confirms a pre-order (shipping included!).
Customers will have to pay up front, but even if the Switch releases at £400, those that pre-order will still pay the original £198.50.
“As part of our ongoing effort to make GameSeek the number one destination for all of your gaming needs, we are reducing the prices on consoles to be the cheapest in the UK,”
“To help us celebrate our new initiative, we’ve opened pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch at just £198.50.”
According to consoleprice.co.uk, prices are currently:
PS4 £224.98
XB1 £199.00
Wii U £232.44
Whether or not GameSeek’s pre-order price has anything to do with the final retail launch number is undetermined. If GameSeek already knows the final price will be £198.50 you’d think Nintendo would be all over them for potentially leaking their magic number months ahead of schedule.
Laura Dale claims her sources have suggested the Switch will launch at two price points. The system alone will cost $250 USD while the bundle with one game and larger storage will run $300 USD (I would buy that in a heartbeat).
The Wii U launched at $299.99 for the 8GB model and $349.99 for 32gb storage and Nintendo Land. A $250 price point would put the Switch in line with their Wii launch, but I feel Nintendo isn’t ready to play the budget card just yet. The Switch and it’s mobile tablet are an evolution of the Wii U, so I would be incredibly surprised to see it dip below $299.
Nintendo has been gearing up for this launch for some time now and it feels like they even took a few potential Wii U games to add to the Switch’s spring lineup. A new Mario will be enough to have Nintendo fans lining up around the block for a chance to play day one. Throw in the ports of still-great Wii U games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash, as well as the prospect of Zelda around the corner, and 2017 could be a big year for the big N.
