And it’s as weird as it sounds.

frog fractions 2

I don’t even know where to begin with this. I guess I’ll just start by telling you that the game Frog Fractions 2 has been found inside another title, Glittermitten Grove. Yeah, a game inside a game.

The journey to Frog Fractions 2 has been long and strange and laden with an insane amount of cryptic clues and codes. I haven’t kept up with the string of events like the game’s cult following has, but as far as I can tell, it’s been ludicrously complex.

The original Frog Fractions, a free browser game by Jim Crawford, released in 2012. At first, it plays like a simple children’s educational game. However, it’s not very educational, and it isn’t a fun little way to pass the time. Eventually, you unlock some upgrades and the game gets really, really weird.

It’s better experienced than explained, but the point of the game seems to be to surprise and entertain the player with its many kooky twists and turns. It quickly gained a huge cult following, who have been searching for the sequel ever since.

At long last, Frog Fractions 2 has been located inside another indie Steam title Glittermitten Grove, a cute gathering survival fairy game. To be clear, Glittermittem Grove is a completely separate game, but you have to buy and play it to get to Frog Fractions 2.

How do you get to a game inside a game?

To unlock the cult hit’s sequel, here’s what you gotta do: Use fireworks to drill down into the dirt in Glittermittem Grove until you discover a secret door. Badabing badaboom! You’re in a text-mode adventure quest that is apparently Frog Fractions 2. (You could also play the fairy game until finding a floating door in the sky, but that takes longer than blasting your way to the underground entrance.)

I haven’t checked it out for myself yet, but Ars Technica says the sequel is “both very similar and very different from Frog Fractions.” That is, it’s a fairly incomprehensible, but fun, series of scenes, events, and mini-games.

Have you checked out the oddity that is Frog Fractions 2 yet? What’s the most bizarre moment you’ve encountered so far? Let us know in the comments!

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
