Final Fantasy XV Art Book available for pre-order, releases this December

When it comes to the Final Fantasy series, one thing critics can agree on is how damn pretty each game is (relative to its release date). The gameplay and narrative can be hit or miss, but SquareEnix takes their art seriously. We’re currently streaming the Final Fantasy XIII series from last-gen and it still looks impressive!

But enough about the past, this book celebrates the present (of which half is a remnant of a much older game). Square Enix is teaming up with Cook & Becker to release an art book detailing the visual design of FFXV and its buddy film Kingsglaive. It’s available in standard and limited editions (obviously).

The book is set to release sometime in December 2017, but is available for pre-order right now. The Limited Edition comes with a collector’s box and “2 exclusive FINAL FANTASY XV giclee(?) art prints.”

The Art & Design of FINAL FANTASY XV provides an extensive look at the art and design of the FINAL FANTASY XV universe, which spans both the game and the movie, KINGSGLAIVE FINAL FANTASY XV. Readers can expect a carefully curated collection of art that tells the story of the Kingdom of Lucis, shining a light on the love and dedication that went into creating the world of FINAL FANTASY XV. The selected art ranges from pencil sketches to detailed renders and elaborate digital paintings, and will include never-before-seen artwork. The book is published by art dealership and art book publisher Cook & Becker and was created together with key members of the art team responsible for FINAL FANTASY XV.”

I’m sure after you’ve seen the anime, watched the film, and pored over the entirety of this collection you’ll totally understand the story.

Oh I get it. It’s a war between the duality of the two-headed monster inside us all.

I don’t normally care about outside media related to games, but this could be pretty interesting. Now if they released a tell-all interview book about the development of Final Fantasy since XIII (or any era) I’d pre-order that sucker with haste….

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
