Elite: Dangerous RPG Kickstarter has begun

The highly rated Space MMO Elite: Dangerous is getting a physical RPG version of the game. Elite Dangerous recently launched a Kickstarter for their new project and it’s already met the goal set. The team was looking for £45,000 for the project and the team has already collected over £47,000.

The Kickstarter page states that “Elite: Dangerous deserves a role playing game” and that the “two platforms merge seamlessly”. The video game has a sandbox style world where players can explore and forge their own path through the game. As a result, the core principles of the game can translate to a table-top RPG setting.

While the Kickstarter was originally created to cover the costs of producing the Core Manual, the team has added several stretch goals:

  • £45k – The Kickstarter target for a printed Core book and 4x supplement book
  • £60k – More high end concept art in the Core Book
  • £70k – A GM screen with original art and useful information
  • £95k – A full spaceship guide that includes all the ships from the video game
  • £105k – Maps Pack 1 with 3x A3 grid maps of locations
  • £130k – A full monster manual
  • £155k – An Imperial Sourcebook that looks at how the Empire works
  • £180k – A Federation Sourcebook that focuses on the workings of the Federation
  • £205k – An Alliance Sourcebook to detail the history of the Alliance
  • £230k – Full equipment guide
  • £240k – Map Pack 2 with 3x A3 grid maps
  • £265k – EDRPG Academy book with simplified game rules
  • £275k – Physical game Counters
  • £300k – A vehicle guide book
  • £325k – Detailed book about the Starports in the game world
  • £350k – Corporate guide book about the companies in the game
  • £360k – Map Pack 3 with 3x A3 grid maps
  • £385k – A Rebellion Guide book about the rebellion

Spidermind Games clearly have high hopes for this Kickstarter and the RPG. The stretch goals list ends with “more on the horizon” so they’ll most likely add more goals if the Kickstarter reaches the high end of the goals.

The Kickstarter page reveals a lot about the upcoming game and confirms that it includes a huge amount of customization. Players will also be able to modify their spaceship to the same detail as the video game. It’s also possible to recruit crew members for each ship and they each have their own abilities.

Anyone looking to get involved with the Kickstarter has 23 days left to support the new project.
