Dragon Quest X Confirmed for the NX

Dragon Quest X on the go sounds nice, but we may never see it in the West.

Last July, during a Square Enix news conference, a spokesperson stated almost in passing that Dragon Quest X and XI would be coming to Nintendo’s NX. At the time, this made Dragon Quest X and XI the first games officially confirmed for Nintendo’s newest dedicated gaming console. Very soon afterward Square Enix backtracked a bit and said that the presenter had gone off-script, and that NX versions of these games were “under consideration” but not confirmed. I’m sure Nintendo had something to do with that.

Today that brave, enthusiastic presenter is vindicated, and Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest X is indeed coming to the NX. Dragon Quest producer Yosuke Saito mentioned in an interview with Famitsu (via NintendoLife) that the Dragon Quest X team is expecting and preparing for a influx of new players. According to Saito-san that influx will reach its peak as the game is released on PS4 and NX.

Dragon Quest X is a MMORPG that debuted in Japan for the Wii back in 2012. Since then the game has undergone three major updates and migrated to the Wii U and PC. A fourth version of the game is in the works, and it’s that version that we will likely see on PS4 and NX. It’s the version that Japanese players will see, at any rate. It remains unclear whether or not Dragon Quest X will make it to the West. The fact that we’re getting Dragon Quest VII & VIII soon on the 3DS is a good sign, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
