BioWare introduced Dragon Age: The Veilguard with a cinematic trailer during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase. EA announced a Fall 2024 release window for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The trailer introduced the seven companions who could join the customizable protagonist, Rook: Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve and Taash. Each was presented around a distinct role within the party rather than as a conventional class checklist.
Reveal trailer versus gameplay reveal
The June 9 presentation was cinematic. BioWare followed it with an extended gameplay presentation on June 11, showing real-time combat and an ability wheel that pauses the action so players can issue companion commands and combine abilities.
Neither presentation established native 4K, a locked 60fps mode, ray-traced ambient occlusion or a particular hair-rendering system. Those unsupported specifications have been removed.
The more interesting design question was how BioWare would balance direct action with party control. The ability wheel retained tactical decision-making without returning to the slower combat of the earliest Dragon Age games.
