Doomfist Finally Comes to Overwatch, Not Voiced by Terry Crews

Overwatch’s hero roster welcomes a new and long-awaited member: Doomfist, the gauntlet-wielding supervillain who, despite much rallying, is not voiced by Terry Crews.

This character has been a long time coming. Blizzard teased Doomfist before Overwatch was even released, with his first mention coming in a 2014 cinematic trailer. Fans have been waiting to play as this hulking fighter for some time.

Doomfist’s real name is Akande Ogundimu, and he is a cybernetic offense character whose hand cannon gauntlet knocks enemies down. He’s a melee fighter whose skills are best used in up-close combat.

Blizzard says, “In addition to dealing ranged damage with his Hand Cannon, Doomfist can slam the ground, knock enemies into the air and off balance, or charge into the fray with his Rocket Punch. When facing a tightly packed group, Doomfist leaps out of view, then crashes down to earth with a spectacular Meteor Strike.”

Meteor Strike is Doomfist’s ultimate ability. He jumps up and slams his gauntleted fist down, creating a crater that demolishes anyone within seven meters of him.

As for his story, Doomfist is a legendary villain said to be the boss of other baddies like Widowmaker, Sombra, and Reaper. In his cinematic trailer debut, above, Doomfist is shown escaping from a maximum security prison. Blizzard painted more of his backstory in an article from the Overwatch world.

Blizzard has not revealed the voice actor of Doomfist, but we know it isn’t Terry Crews. The football player-turned-actor and his fans campaigned for Crews to voice the long-awaited hero on social media, but to no avail.

Doomfist is available to play now in Overwatch’s public test region on PC and should be rolling out to console players in the coming weeks.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
