Dedicated VR Freeplay Area for PAX Aus 2016, Including Omni

Excited for VR? PAX has you covered.

It’s getting exciting for early adopters of VR. The release of the PlayStation VR is just hours away. If you’re still undecided on whether the new technology is for you, PAX Aus 2016 is probably a good opportunity (If you’re in Australia) to try it out.

This week PAX announced for the first time there will be a dedicated VR Freeplay Area. Harvey Norman Games Hub are sponsoring the Area. Players will be able to get their hands on the latest in VR tech. The HTC Vive will be available with some green-screen VR setups and Omni treadmills (Those expensive things that replace WASD). In addition to the Vive will be the Oculus Rift and the PlayStation VR.

Penny Arcade and PAX Co-founder Jerry Holkins said “VR dominates the headlines, yet most people have never had the chance to try it out… Trying that technology for the first time is a magical experience, and we’re glad to offer that moment to the tens of thousands of attendees coming to PAX Aus.”

Seems like this will be a lot of fun. I’m sure the Arena will be busy due to the hype of VR. The Freeplay Area will cover a large 234 square meter space. You can find it on level 2 of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Single day tickets are still available for $65.

Lachlan's passion for gaming started when he played DOS games like Commander Keen and Wacky Races. His passion grew when he discovered his Aunt's Atari 2600 and was given a Game Boy for Christmas from his Pa. His favourite console has been the PlayStation 1. Right now he has become a little lazy with gaming but still enjoys the occasional FIFA session. He hopes to get back into playing games more regularly so he can switch off from the real world like he did as a Kid. He's excited about the introduction of VR and hopes for some great VR titles.
