Cheap Games to Play With Your Family This Easter

It’s Easter weekend, which means a lot of you are probably in for some family gatherings. After the massive meal and egg hunt, wouldn’t it be nice to just relax and enjoy a fun game? But we get it, you don’t want to buy a new $60 game just to have something to play with your family for one weekend.

Below we’ve made a list of cheap (mostly free) games for various platforms that would be perfect for family time. But you’ll also want to keep playing them on your own.

Snake Pass

This is the only game on the list that requires a purchase, but the entertainment is worth the $20. This indie physics puzzle platform adventure has players control a slithering snake through various colorful, treacherous levels.

Snake Pass is only single-player, but your relatives–both young and old–would enjoy passing the controller around trying to “think like a snake” to solve the game’s puzzles. It’s simple enough to be comfortable for a non-gamer, inventive enough to entertain those more familiar with video games, and hilarious enough for everyone.

Get Snake Pass for Nintendo Switch or PC via Steam for $19.99.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Here’s a great couch co-op for up to four of your family members to get lost in. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime tasks players with piloting a neon spaceship through a colorful galaxy. What’s more, it’s free on PS4 this month for PlayStation Plus members.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is available on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam for $14.99.

Snipperclips

In this colorful action-puzzle game, you and up to three other players have to snip and clip each other into different shapes to solve the game’s puzzles. It sounds weird, but it’s fun and hilarious and easy to get the hang of.

Full price Snipperclips is just $19.99 on the Nintendo Switch, but there’s a free demo available for download on the eShop. Get to snipping.

The Walking Dead: Season 2

If your family is obsessed with The Walking Dead TV show like just about everyone I know, they’ll likely be interested in experiencing a video game variation with a young girl as the main character. This is definitely the least kid-friendly game on the list, but it’d be perfect for a side-gathering in the guest room.

The Walking Dead: Season 2 is free for Xbox Gold members on Xbox One starting tomorrow, Easter Sunday, and it’s $24.99 on Steam, PS4, Android, and iOS.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
