Bluehole in talks to bring PUBG to PS4

Bluehole are in talks with Sony to bring PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to PS4, as reported by bloomberg.

With PUBG becoming the hottest game in the world this is no surprise, but talks of a PS4 port have been strangely silent. The game started on PC and was a huge announce for Xbox at E3. Microsoft may be losing the exclusives war to Sony in terms of quantity, but there might be a large group of buyers that could make their console decision based on which platform has PUBG.

The Xbox announcement was deemed a ‘console-launch exclusive’, leaving room for interpretation as a timed exclusive, and the PS4 getting its own version at a later date. Previous reports had suggested a PS4 port might not happen, and with Microsoft’s deep pockets, perhaps they had ponied up for long-term console-exclusivity. I’m sure it would take a staggering amount of money to keep it off PS4, as Sony still has a substantial lead in consoles sold. Bluehole would be leaving too much money on the table to not hit the PS4 market. However, Microsoft has the financial backing to make a serious offer and other than Cuphead, this could have been their flagship console exclusive.

We don’t have more details other than bloomberg’s report that “Bluehole is in talks with Sony about introducing a version to Playstation after [releasing on Xbox]”.

Sony fans worried of losing out on the PUBG craze can take solace in the fact that there are at least talks ongoing to make it happen.

A New Challenger Has Entered

PS4 owners tired of waiting for PUBG to scratch their Battle Royale itch can now turn to Fortnite, Epic Games’ take on the Battle Royale concept. It’s the same 100-player concept, but in third-person and has building mechanics. Fortnite is available on PS4/PC/XBox/Mac. The PvP is also free, as only the PvE is in paid early access until 2018.

Mathew is a huge fan of Space, Strategy, and Shadowrun (Genesis version is #1). When it comes to games and films, he’d much rather experience a 10/10 classic from yesteryear than a 6/10 modern blandfest. He does feel we’re living in a gaming golden age with the power of indie developers at an all-time high, but wishes AAA publishers would take more risks. Mat believes it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way and new ideas take their rightful place above reboots.
