Learn more about ARMS fighters and weapons in new video showcases

Nintendo has revealed more details about their upcoming fighter game ARMS, coming exclusively to the Switch. Two new videos highlight various character and weapon features, and you’ll wanna get the lowdown before heading into the boxing ring.

Only five fighters were introduced in the above video, though the full game will likely have more. All characters have arms that extend across the fighting ring to attack opponents, but each one has special abilities to get to know.

Spring Man

Nintendo calls Spring Man “an all-around balanced fighter,” likely a good first character to choose to get a feel for the game’s mechanics.

As for abilities, his shockwave can counter attacks, his arms stay charged when his health his low, and his punches can be charged up for more powerful hits.

Ribbon Girl

The “pop star of the ring” can double jump in mid-air to avoid opponents’ attacks. She also has the ability to drop down from the air quickly to get in a fast attack before the enemy knows what hit him.

Ninjara

This illusive fighter has chains for arms and can execute quick dodges to avoid punches. He can even warp with his shield up to better set up counter attacks. This characters looks especially fast-moving.

Master Mummy

Named for his mummified appearance, this is the tank of the group. He features a raised defense, though that comes with reduced speed and arm-reach. Also, bringing up his guard restores some health.

Mechanica

Last but not least, this rocket-suit fighter can hover to punch opponents from higher ground… well, air. She is also resistant to stun attacks.

Also posted today was the above ARMS weapons video. Fighters can equip different types of arms–even two types at once–to utilize in battle. Choose wisely.

Toaster weapons charge up and catch fire.

Megatons are slower but more powerful.

Sparkies charge with electricity for stun attacks.

Boomerangs curve around to punch from the side.

Revolvers can fire three shots with one punch and also stun enemies.

Slapamanders whip around to punch opponents and charge up to catch fire.

ARMS doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it’s slated to come out Spring 2017 for Nintendo Switch.

Mischa McGill

Mischa grew up with video games and still has a deep love for many - especially fun, colorful RPGs. Some of her favorites include Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Fantasy Life, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Civilization V, and Stardew Valley. She loves nights in with her boyfriend cooking Mexican food, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and going head-to-head in their favorite games. Mischa might not beat you in Super Smash Bros, but she owns a replica of Arwen’s sword and Hermione’s wand, so... don’t rub it in too much.
